Hello racers,
As you know, part of the intrigue in our sport is that element of adventure that occurs on race day. That understood, I wanted to get you fired up with some details...
Stephen Morris and Shane Romig and I met again yesterday to review course design and race details. It will be a great day for fast teams.
1. You may want to bring your own boats for the flatwater, and be a supported team.
2. You may want to practice pace-lining on your bikes. In fact, given the distances, road bikes or cross bikes or mountain bikes with semi-slick tires will be the preferred options.
3. Maps will include 1:24,000 scale with grid lines from
www.mytopo.com. These are the best we know of, and we have used them at Primal Quest and many longer races. We expect that you will love them.
4. On Saturday, Oct 1, sunlight is restrictive for a 12-hour race. We knew that when we scheduled it. You may want to bring headlights. However, know that the race is designed to be completed around 7:00 p.m. and it will finish no later than 8:00 p.m. Awards and a celebration dinner will be provided until about 8:30 p.m. Then there will be transportation back to the USNWC. So, if you need to travel somewhere that evening, you may want to be a supported team.
5. We are exploring the possibility of a group campsite for Saturday evening... details to follow.
Happy training- see you on the trails!
